Omaha’s First Mini-Pitch Empowers Girls to Play

THE CHALLENGE
Barriers for Girls in Soccer
In Omaha, girls—particularly girls of color—faced steep barriers to playing soccer.
More than 70 girls couldn’t attend weekly practices due to transportation challenges, and the community lacked a safe, dedicated green space for youth recreation.
THE SOLUTION
A Safe Field on Campus
In 2021, Urban Soccer Park partnered with Football for the World Foundation (FFTW) and Girls, Inc. to build a 50×80 modular mini-pitch directly on the Girls, Inc. campus. The field removes transportation barriers and gives kids a safe, inspiring place to play.

The Girls, Inc. mini-pitch is more than a place to play. It gives members a safe, on-campus space to build confidence, fitness, and teamwork.
What was once a barrier is now a pathway — and FFTW plans to replicate this model across Omaha to expand access even further.
