CCBA Witherell Recreation Center Transforms Courts Into Soccer Hub
From tennis and basketball courts to year-round mini-pitches — creating flexible, all-weather access for the New England community.
THE CHALLENGE
Underused Courts, Growing Demand
The CCBA Witherell Recreation Center in downtown Lebanon, NH, wanted to expand recreation options for its community. Its tennis and basketball courts were underutilized, while demand for soccer access was rising.
With New England’s unpredictable weather, the challenge was to create high-quality, year-round space without building a full-size field.
THE SOLUTION
Courts Reimagined as Turf Fields
In 2021, Urban Soccer Park partnered with NESP and Lightning Soccer Club to repurpose the courts into two modular turf fields and a floor hockey court.
Field Features
Two Modular Fields – 60×100 and 50×100 with futsal goals, netting, and sideline goals
Multi-Sport Ready – Added floor hockey court for versatility
Clubhouse Support – Modified shipping container for programming and storage
COMMUNITY
Adaptive Reuse at Its Best
By repurposing tennis and basketball courts, CCBA created fields that now serve youth players, adult leagues, and Lightning Soccer Club year-round.
The flexible turf system works for both small-sided training and community games, while the clubhouse supports ongoing programming.
“We saw the Urban Soccer Park fields as a way to maximize our facilities and bring high-quality soccer access to the community without the need for a full-size pitch.”
